Cordisons Lamu Wind Power Project

The Cordisons Lamu Wind Power (I) – (Kiongwe Project) is a first phase 50 MW*2 wind park to be owned and operated by an Independent Power Producer in Kenya. The US$ 230 million project is expected to generate 326 GWh of electricity per annum from 2026 to 2038. Thirty-two wind turbines are expected to be installed in the facility. The wind park will be connected to the central electricity grid of Kenya

02

Project location

The project is located along the coast line South West of Lamu town in Lamu County, on a leased site of public land along Kenya’s Indian Ocean northeastern coast shoreline making it one of the Sustainable Green-Blue Economy Project in the region.
Lamu winds are unique because they will deliver the most cost-efficient sources
of day time peak electricity to the national grid of Kenya.

03

Transmission

The Cordisons Lamu Wind Power project site is 15km from a 220kV transmission line. Transmission screening analysis completed by Electric Power Engineers of Austin, Texas, U.S.A. https://epeconsulting.com/  in collaboration with the Off-taker, Kenya Power Company Ltd. The study concluded that 200 MW could be evacuated from the Lamu region, with 100 MW to be interconnected at the 220kV Lamu substation before further upgrades. The electrical systems study is completed, including substation and switchyard design.
